DELIVER BEDS & DREAM KITS
This is a hands-on outreach opportunity for families with kids, individuals, clubs, teams, youth groups, or work groups to assemble Dream Kits and help deliver beds and Dream Kits to children in our community who have recently moved into stable housing.
Volunteers will meet at our office for a short orientation and to pack Dream Kits and then head out on bed deliveries.

A Few Things to Prepare for Volunteering
Weather: The weather conditions on the day of delivery may vary. Please make sure to check the weather forecast and prepare appropriately. You will be spending some time outside as you unload the truck and carry the beds into families' homes.
Attire: While there is no strict dress code for our volunteers, we advise that you consider close-toe shoes to protect yourself!
Mobility: While we do our best to make this experience accessible for all, some of the homes that we deliver to may have steps, or even flights of stairs, that we must take to get the beds into the family's unit. If you have any concerns about the physical requirements or need accommodations, please contact us in advance at info@myveryownbed.org so we can work together to ensure a safe and positive experience for all.

SCHEDULE FOR YOUR VOLUNTEER DAY
On most delivery days, we deliver about 10 beds to about 4 households. This takes approximately 3 hours. We can’t do it without your help! Here’s what you’ll do as a volunteer:
Arrive at My Very Own Bed at 9:00 am.
Make Dream Kits – 9:00 to 9:40 am
We’ll share some information about the kids we’re delivering to that day (ages, genders, favorite colors, and interests). Then, your job is to make a “Dream Kit” for each child. The Dream Kit includes: sheets, a blanket, a mattress pad, a pillow, a stuffed animal, 2 books and a brochure about healthy sleep. Our space is clearly labeled to help you find everything, and staff will be there to help you.

Load the Truck – 9:40 to 10:00 am
After we finish the Dream Kits, we’ll load bed frames, mattresses, and Dream Kits into the truck.

Deliver Beds – 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
We usually finish loading the truck by about 10:00 am. Then volunteers will get in their own vehicles, while MVOB staff drive the truck. Volunteers can expect to drive an average of 30 miles. After we finish delivering to the last house, we’re done for the day. At each home we visit:
-
My Very Own Bed staff will greet the family at the front door.
-
Volunteers will unload all the items for that family (mattresses, frames, and Dream Kits) and bring them into the family’s home.
-
Volunteers will help set up beds.
-
Then we say goodbye to the family and head to the next stop.

Thank you for supporting kids and being part of our community. We look forward to having you join us!
