Volunteers are the lifeblood of My Very Own Bed. We simply could not serve as many kids without the amazing network of compassionate people who support our work by volunteering. Adults and kids can get involved in many different ways. There's something for everyone!
Assemble Bed Frames
This is a hands-on opportunity to assemble our platform bed frames that are provided with every bed delivery. Each frame is hand assembled from a kit. Frames are then stored in our warehouse until we deliver beds to kids on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. This is a great volunteer opportunity for small groups of 1-4 or larger groups of 10+. You will be working with light tools such as a drill, rubber mallet and box cutters.
Organize Our Space
Help us maintain the cleanliness of our warehouse space and organize our Dream Kit items. Duties include sweeping, mopping, surface cleaning, and organizing our Dream Kit items on our inventory shelves.
Deliver Beds & Dream Kits
This is a hands-on outreach opportunity for families with kids, individuals, clubs, teams, youth groups, or work groups to assemble Dream Kits and help deliver beds and Dream Kits to children in our community who have recently moved into stable housing. Volunteers will meet at our office for a short orientation and to pack Dream Kits and then head out on bed deliveries.
Be an Event Ambassador
Volunteering as an Event Ambassador is an opportunity to engage with your community and represent My Very Own Bed! We need positive, welcoming volunteers who are familiar with our work to spread the word at scheduled community events around the Twin Cities Metro.
More Ways to Get Involved
Make Fleece Blankets
You can support our work by making fleece blankets to include in our Dream Kits that get delivered to kids with their new beds. We always need a wide variety of colors and patterns to help us customize Dream Kits based on kids' favorite colors and interests.
Start a Donation Drive
Volunteers help us collect supplies for our Dream Kits – pillows, mattress pads, sheets, blankets, stuffed animals, and books – that accompany each bed. You can host an in-person or virtual donation drive in your neighborhood, school, church, or work community.
Serve on a Board Development Committee
My Very Own Bed seeks a volunteer with fundraising, networking, event planning, marketing, communications, or PTA or other community organizational leadership experience. Learn more.
"It was very rewarding to see the joy and pure happiness on the faces of these kids and their families when we were putting those beds together for them." – Volunteer
